I found Halifax easy cash account the most easy to get. Though it took them 4 weeks to open an account, all that was asked was a copy of the passport.Pop into a halifax local branch and ask for an account opening form. Take a photocopy of all the pages in your passport and send them along with the application form to Halifax.(Best part is you need not pay for the stamps )


I faced a lot of difficulties in opening my initial bank account once I reached UK. The banks here were asking me to get a letter from employer and in my case my employer was not registered in UK(Was registered in Ireland). So the letter given by my employer was not considered a valid document_ I was staying in a shared accommodation and could not present the banks with a proper address proof. I had visited all the branches in the high street and then one day I walked into Halifax branch.When I asked them about the account opening procedures, to my delight I found that for the basic bank account all that they needed was a passport copy. I was really happy I found a solution for my problem atlast.(It took me 3 months from the time I landed to get a bank account opened)
